A sensible bird

waits for a tail wind to blow

easing Spring’s journey.

False rumours and lies

like an old dog with no teeth

still able to bite.

Sammiscribbles weekend writing prompt #195

I’m writing a poem often tried

It’s a version of a sonnet

about a man who was often lied

about and himself did profit from it

I am referring to of course Don Juan

a fictional seventeenth century hedonist

with an ego quite gargantuan.

who did embark on many a tryst

of love or even romance it is often said

his exploits were quite phenomenal,

to judge by the numbers he did bed

and seen as both influential and seminal.

The reason for his downfall is a mystery

but his life will be remembered in history.

Ronovan writes Decima poetry challenge #43 The rites of May in the minds of faerie folk.

The Morris dancers dance and sing,

to patterns fashioned long ago

unwritten, only told and shown.

Still welcoming the start of Spring,

garlands twirl, tambourine bells ring

places set in remembered lines

with merry steps they intertwine,

as reminders of bygone days

the pipe and concertina play

while all hands clapping mark the time.

I was out with a girl called Trace

We were walking near the airbase

It might not sound good and proper

She wanted to look at a chopper

You should have seen the look on my face.

The bare branches bend

in the full force of the gale

fallen leaves lie still.

Sammiscribbles weekend writing prompt #165-The making of a masterpiece.

A voice called my name. It was my childhood friend Franz. He invited me up to his rather cramped artist’s studio. For a small fee he would do my portrait. I agreed and he retrieved a large board with a hole through which I should place my head. I could not stop laughing when I realised it would depict me dressed as a cavalier.

Crimson’s Creative Challenge #116 Lead kindly light

The harbour’s lights are shining

to guide the sailors home

The lover’s hearts are pining

while sons and lovers roam.

Come the grey dawn the sun will rise

and winds blow from offshore,

the fleet will sail in on the tide,

safe in their homes once more.
