Crimson’s Creative Challenge #190 #Rights of way

I couldn’t believe the length of the grass

for it was high enough to reach my waist

the sign was a warning I could not pass

and turning in anger my steps retraced

and though I’m not known to be a moaner

was determined to tell the new landowner

that through this so-called private land

an unmarked ancient way still ran

so anyone walking up to the moor

this sign should continue to ignore.

Crimsons Creative Challenge #189 “Paradise lost.”

Ensuring our scent was not carried on the breeze

we found a vantage point among the trees

our precautions were soon put to the test

with a lovely sight we were soon blessed

such an idyllic scene there was no doubt

till without warning a single shot rang out.

Sammiscribbles weekend writing prompt #264 #Inspirational

It’s Saturday morning once again

a day Bob liked because when

he opened his Outlook email box

there was often one from Sammi Cox

knowing these prompts were always fun

he couldn’t wait to start on the latest one

so he went and sat at his writing desk

for the word today was, “Picturesque.”

Crimson’s Creative Challenge #188

I took a drive out on Sunday last

passing places I used to know so well

then stopped and stared my mind aghast

remembered things I still could not tell

even though many years have passed

since I last went through those gates to hell

but now with chains and padlocks sealed

the stark gates looking forlorn and sad

and though they say that time will heal

I looked and actually felt quite glad

the message here could not be clearer

surely this is the end of a great era.

Crimson’s Creative Challenge #187. #A sailor’s lament

I was out sailing in my dinghy yesterday

in the English Channel twixt Dover and Calais

I fired a distress flare at half past five

then waited for hours for a lifeboat to arrive

it wasn’t because lifeboat crews couldn’t care less

but they have no time for real sailors in distress

those people who work or just enjoy being at sea,

for now they’re too busy looking for refugees
