In this clearing I dance alone
the other trees call me Salome
though in other lands, in other times
with my Maenad sisters arms entwined
danced for the God of wine and fertility
once a goddess of dance and poetry
but while my flesh looks old and gnarled
my arms and trunk still lithe uncurl
to a rhythm unleashed by the breeze
dancing for an audience of trees
