the
harvest
is finished
yellow sunflowers
still dance merrily in the sun
their smiling faces spreading joy to both birds and bees
as they feast upon their seeds and pollen whilst children laugh at their bright smiling faces

a guess as to when these walls were made
straight and true and very thick
with alternate layers of flint and brick
using Roman strength and British sand

In a crevice between grey stones lurks
a fat bodied patient predator
who sits and waits to feel a jerk
upon the delicate gossamer
threads of her sticky self spun twine
when another hapless fly is ensnared
a feast upon which she at ease may dine
in the warmth and safety of her lair.
