When the pen takes control.

With slow fuse burning

Incendiary anger

Bursts into fury

In the East as the sky turns red

It’s time for me to leave my bed

To the shoreline I must away

And try my luck with the net today

A rod and a line are not for me

Fish leap with joy if these they see

So I’ve decided to use a net

But I still haven’t caught any yet

Proudly wearing wings

Freshly clipped onto his breast

Just doing his job

When I lived in the village, I remember there stood

a lovely white cottage at the edge of the wood

With its whitewashed walls in the sun how they shone

But sadly I went back and my dream house had gone

Instead of old walls where wisteria grew thick

Was a blot on the landscape, all glass and red brick.

Myself and a girl called Lee

Often went for walks by the sea

We would lie in the dunes

On her flute she played tunes

And I sang along out of key

Idlers seldom gain

the inspirational surge

Legend tells of an endless quest famed throughout the land

that was easily rent asunder by Alexander”s hand.

Gently he lays the guitar down

Under his breath the curses flow

Whipped to a frenzy, raging, wild

Of nostalgia, memories once caressed

From frowning faces coax a smile.

I’ll tell you a tale about me and Jane

Playing snakes and ladders was our favourite game

Her stockings always got ladders

As she slid up and down the snake

We would happily play that game

Till it got very late
