Mistletoe and wine on again

T V remote on the table

to reach it I am not able

so I have to listen then

to a song that celebrates when

meeting people we have to try

to stifle any wish to sigh

hoping my face doesn’t give away

the thoughts behind my eyes that day

and memories won’t make me cry.

I find when talking to country folk

their favourite tree is the mighty oak

so just last week whilst driving my truck

I stopped near this one to have a look

and you can imagine my surprise

I’m sure I saw a pair of eyes

so I jumped back in to tell my mate Stan

He said, don’t worry, tiz just the Green Man

he won’t hurt you if you leave him alone

but I think we’d best start heading for home.

Sammiscribbles weekend writing prompt #238 #Maybe superstition

I don’t think I’ve heard anything sillier

than the names of the so-called witches familiar

such names as Bodkin, Turncoat and Scat

now who on earth would believe that

but as we read about it the case unravels

that were brought by the man who on his travels

whose self-made credentials were quite ephemeral

Mathew Hopkins, known as The Witchfinder General

but those days are gone and I suppose

we should pray for those found guilty, now in repose

Recently my parents parted

my stepmother was such a bitch

married my dad coz he was rich

to us all she was cold hearted

that was how the problems started

it’s often said that love is blind

I think my father lost his mind

but he began to realise

that all their love was built on lies

no human should be so unkind

In all these challenges I have never

tried to do something really clever

but this week I’m going to be bold

for my new post I’ll show one that’s old

Sammiscribbles weekend writing prompt #237 #Musing

Between the solitary, candy-striped lighthouse and the white converted coastguard cottages, as the sun starts it’s daily descent in the western sky I see them exploring where the waves rhythmically, relentlessly, melt the sands, and wonder, had Shelley witnessed such a scene, would he have composed a wondrous poem to, “ The mudlark.”

Ronovan writes #Decima prompt #85 #Birthday celebrations

Woke up this morning feeling rough

after an evening to remember

in this cold frosty November

regrets now that I’d had enough

of cake and alcoholic stuff

consumed on the auspicious day

when friends and family all say

how pleased and proud they feel to be

part of this happy company

who I hope feel like me today

Crimson’s Creative Challenge #159 #Echoes of the past

As I walk along the sunken path

bordered both by fence and trees

my mind to calmer days is cast

when on most days there would be seen

men on horseback but more on foot

herding ponies, poultry, pigs or sheep

for this was once the road they took

down the valleys, over mountains steep

with dog and shout they drive them on

until at last their journey’s done.
