Sammiscribbles weekend writing prompt #243 The King and I

I’d like to tell you about a king

who was rather free with wedding rings

and got wed a full six times

giving rise to a nursery rhyme

his throne was destined for another

but untimely death befell his brother

his temerity to all was clear

but soon he began to rely on fear

and by his capricious nature

those once called friend now often traitor

Who am I?

Ronovan writes #Decima prompt #91 #Devotions,

At six o’clock the vespers bell,

in gloomy silence through the aisle

eight black clad figures slowly file

I waking now, might fear in hell

but memory my chest would swell

as fulfilling spiritual need

I turn the page from which I read

the chosen passage of the day

while with heads bowed my brothers pray

as we avow our daily creed

Crimson’s Creative Challenge #165 Orphan

What’s that creature down below

basking in the summer glow

it looks like a kitten to me

perhaps it floated in on the sea

shall we go down and pick it up

no look again it’s a seal pup

it’s mother’s probably quite near

she’ll look after the little dear

but if she doesn’t come back soon

well tell the warden who knows what to do

Sammiscribbles weekend writing prompt #242 Night ritual

At the end of every evening

before switching off the lights

I check on my household pets

and bid them all Goodnight

a tank containing goldfish

two cats and dog as well

I sometimes say it to my wife

or else she gives me hell

Crimson’s Creative Challenge 164 The lifeboat “Louisa.” https://youtu.be/HcIdT-bPNKU

In Porlock Bay there was a great squall

that cut the tow of the Forest Hall

the Watchet lifeboat couldn’t launch there

so they called the boys from Lynmouth fair

without hesitation their brave men

said we will do what we can for them,

over hill and moor they dragged their boat

and from Porlock bay set her afloat

they set off from Porlock beach

so that those poor crew they then could reach

you may not believe but this is true

how they saved the lives of that ship’s crew.

Ronovan writes #Decima prompt #90 The beauty of nature

Out in the woods I saw today

guaranteed to lighten my heart

was a sight of natural art

for on the grass I spied a jay

although quite common so they say

as on the grass he alighted

true to say I was delighted

silver blue wingtips shining bright

and chessboard flanks of black and white

with fawn and purple neck and breast

his long beak probing on it’s quest

truly a magnificent sight

Sammiscribbles weekend writing prompt #241 Brevity is the key to success.

Being a writer who

used words like hullabaloo

realising that is a sin

I now use the word din
